Eigenfrequencies of a thick cylindrical ring

Overview

The aim of this test case is to validate the following functions:

  • Modal (frequency) solver

The simulation results of SimScale were compared to the results presented in [SDLS109]. Two of the mesh cases were considered; linear tetrahedral and linear hexahedrals.

Simulation Setup

Material:

  • isotropic: E = 185 GPa, \(\nu\) = 0.3, \(\rho\) = 7800 kg/m³

Constraints:

  • no constraints (free in space)

Simulation Control:

  • Number of eigenfrequencies: 20
  • Lower frequency: 200 Hz
  • Upper frequency: 800 Hz

Results

Comparison of the ovalization, trifoliate and out of plane frequencies obtained with SimScale and the results presented in [SDLS109].
