Density

In structural analysis, density of material is useful for calculating inertia loads as for example load due to self weight. It is defined as the mass per unit volume:

ρ=mV

ρ=mV

where, ‘ρ

ρ

‘ is the density of the material, ‘m

m

‘ is the mass and ‘V

V

‘ is the volume of the material.

For homogenous material, the density is constant throughout the material and hence its value can be calculated by dividing the total mass with the total volume of the object.
