F1 Aerodynamics Workshop

Learn about the fundamentals of aerodynamics for race car design

About this Workshop

In response to the queries from our users who didn’t get a chance to participate in the past F1 workshop that we hosted last year, we have decided to offer another F1 workshop focused on aerodynamics.

Join the free 3 week online workshop series from SimScale to learn about the simulation, design and testing of a Formula One race car!

Participants will get an overview of all the functionalities offered by the SimScale platform, while learning directly from top simulation experts through an interactive workshop and practical application of the simulation technology.

The F1 Aerodynamics Workshop will consist of a series of 3 one-hour sessions. The overall aim is to conceptualize an F1 car design, which will be virtually tested with the help of simulation technology. The live online sessions will take place on Thursdays at 4:00 p.m. Central European Time, with the first session starting on March 17th.

There is no prior knowledge or software required to join this free workshop series. All participants will get free access to SimScale with all the required simulation features.

Meet your Instructors

Session 1

Session 1 - Front Wing Design

March 17th 2016 4:00 p.m. CET / 10:00 a.m. EST

In the first session of the F1 Aerodynamics Workshop, we will introduce you to the SimScale platform and talk about the fundamental physics of aerodynamics before creating our first external aerodynamics simulation of a front wing.

Session 2

Session 2 - Rear Wing Design

March 24th 2016 4:00 p.m. CET / 10:00 a.m. EST

During the second session, we will expand on the knowledge that you gained from the first session and apply it to the design and optimization of a rear wing.

Session 3

Session 3 - Parametric Design Optimization

March 31st 2016 4:00 p.m. CET / 10:00 a.m. EST

The final session of the F1 Aerodynamics Workshop is about parametric design optimization and how it is used in race car design. We will talk about the general development process in F1 and the role of simulation. Finally, we will show you how to optimize the shape of the car using a parametric design approach.
