BlogLife At SimScaleFrom Colleagues to Best Friends: Meet Fillia and Sila

In this blog post, we engage in conversations with our colleagues Fillia and Sila, exploring the paths they traversed, and uncovering the story of how their bond developed into a close friendship within the workplace.

What initially attracted you to work at SimScale?

Fillia: SimScale is a platform I have been using since my Mechanical Engineering studies. The capabilities have always been in my area of interest, especially as I was previously using OpenFOAM for simulation work.

Sila: The product we have. Starting with Industrial Design in Turkey, I later shifted to UX/UI design in Germany. Joining SimScale was a perfect fit, allowing me to blend my diverse skills.

Can you tell us a little about what you do in your roles?

Fillia: As a Customer Success Manager, I am responsible to build and retain relationships with our customer base. I am their trusted advisor and make sure they get the most value out of the platform.

Sila: In my role as a UX/UI Designer, our team focuses on crafting user experiences. I’m involved in designing, testing, and refining our product to ensure they meet our users’ needs.

How would you describe the culture at SimScale? Is it easy to connect with colleagues?

Fillia: SimScale can be considered a casual workplace and it is a culturally diverse environment. People are open minded and inclusive. Also, English is the default language, and remote employees have many chances to connect with the team, either online, or during our company events in Munich.

Sila: The culture here is incredibly welcoming. It’s effortless and fun to connect with colleagues, whether we’re in person or online.

Do you still remember when you first met?

Fillia: Me and Sila had a virtual chat to introduce ourselves and discuss our plans regarding our first visit to the SimScale office back in 2021. We talked about our background and joked about how we would not cope with Munich’s biking culture ( fast-forward three years, we managed).

Sila: Of course! I fondly remember how warmly Fillia welcomed me when I joined. Her kindness made a lasting impression and meeting her in Munich was a highlight. We coordinated our travel plans and had an amazing time with other team members when we visited the Munich office for the first time.

How does it feel working with your best friend?

Fillia: As we are both based in Munich, seeing each other both in and out of the office motivates us to make more plans and be more active. And I just love to go to Sila’s desk and talk about life or have a laugh about a funny story. It’s very fulfilling.

Sila: It is awesome. You know there is always someone you can chat with. Off-work time is fantastic too; we like exploring the city and having fun together whenever possible.

What benefits do you see of having a best friend at work?

Fillia: Endless support, understanding, and the company parties with Sila are 10x more fun. Also, I can now understand a bit more about UX/UI design!

Sila: Working with Fillia, even though we’re in different teams, is incredibly rewarding. I especially value Fillia’s insights on our work and customer needs. Our involvement in voluntary task forces enhances our collaboration and support for one another.

A big thank you to Fillia and Sila for generously sharing their journeys with us.
