Overview

Session 1: Fundamentals of Computational Fluid Dynamics

What you will learn     
  • The fundamental types of fluid flows and its governing equations
  • The Finite Volume Method and solution approaches
  • The role of CFD in product development process
  • The CFD capabilities available on the SimScale Platform and a complete workflow for a fluid flow simulation.

Session 2: CAD Preparation and Meshing in CFD

What you will learn     
  • Important steps in CAD preparation for simulation
  • The process of mesh generation and the types of mesh elements
  • The meshing algorithms available on SimScale and how to use them
How you will benefit
  • You will be able to prepare simulation-ready CAD model and perform advanced (parametric) meshing operations.

Session 3: Incompressible and Compressible Turbulent flows

What you will learn     
  • Classification of incompressible and compressible flows based on simulation conditions
  • Fundamentals of turbulence modeling and the Boundary Layer Theory
  • Comparison of turbulence models and practical applications
  • How to setup internal/external flow simulations with turbulence modeling on the SimScale Platform.
How you will benefit
  • You will become familiar with turbulence modeling and its practical application. You will be able to perform incompressible and compressible turbulent flow analysis for internal/external applications.

Session 4: Passive Scalar Mixing and Multi-Phase Flows

What you will learn
  • Fundamentals of modelling the mixing of quantities in fluids (e.g water treatment)
  • Modeling of multi-phase flows using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method
  • Practical applications and underlying assumptions for mixing/non-mixing phenomenon
  • The workflow and setup of mixing and multi-phase flow simulations on the SimScale

  • You will be able to perform mixing and multi-phase problems with Steady-State and Transient analysis using SimScale. 

Session 5: Advanced Concepts-Rotating Machinery and Porous Media

What you will learn
  • The applications of rotating machinery and porous media in fluid flows
  • The need and benefits of CFD modeling
  • Modeling approaches, CAD and meshing requirements  
  • Workflow and setup of rotating machinery and porous media problems on SimScale
How you will benefit
  • You become familiar with the workflow and will be able to perform rotating machinery and porous media simulations using SimScale. The applications include fans, pumps, rotors, filters and perforated bodies.
