icon open source 1
SimScale is based on cutting-edge open source solver technology currently being used by leading companies, in a large number of industries with different requirements, such as automotive, aerospace, process technology and power generation.
We can rapidly implement new technology and ensure the greatest compatibility between SimScale and third-party software tools, with a high level of accuracy.

OPENFOAM®

OPENFOAM® is a toolbox for solving complex Computational Fluid Dynamics problems. It contains a wide range of physical models (including turbulence, wall treatment, thermodynamics and mass transport), numerical methods and tools for pre- and post-processing.

Disclaimer: This offering is not approved or endorsed by OpenCFD Limited, producer and distributor of the OpenFOAM software and owner of the OPENFOAM® and OpenCFD® trade marks.

Developed at the Imperial College in London, OPENFOAM® offers impressive accuracy and is extensively validated in academic and industrial environments. It is continuously being developed and expanded by a large community of scientists, experts and industrial customers, ensuring rapid implementation of new technologies. As a result, OPENFOAM® has recently replaced several commercial codes.

OPENFOAM® is used for various applications by many industry leaders including:
• Volkswagen Group
• BMW AG
• Ford Motor Company
• Airbus S.A.S.
• Siemens AG
• General Electric Corporation

Over 2000 validations of Code_Aster

Code_Aster is an open source software package for simulation in structural mechanics, including fatigue, damage, fracture, contact, geomaterials, porous media and multi-physics coupling. It was originally developed by EDF as an in-house application for safety-related simulations in nuclear energy environment. The software has been evaluated through independent comparisons in regards to analytical and experimental results, and was enchmarked against commercial codes.

Code_Aster is used for various applications by industry leading companies including:

• Airbus S.A.S.

• Rolex SA

• Valeo SA

Additional Open Source solvers on the SimScale platform

CalculiX

The CalculiX package was developed by a team from MTU Aero Engines as a tool to build, calculate and post-process finite element models.

SU2

SU2 is a toolkit for aerodynamic shape optimization and is under active development in the Aerospace Design Lab at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University.

YADE

Yade is an extensible open source framework for discrete numerical models, which allows the virtual simulation of the behavior of bulk material within industrial applications.

Meshing

As the results of a simulation also depend on the mesh quality, our platform combines a large number of strong meshing algorithms which allow you to create accurate and robust computing grids in a short time.

Validation Library

Convince yourself – our free validation library provides you with a large number of evaluated simulations of standard scientific cases including the full simulation and the analytic results.
