About this workshop

By popular demand SimScale and EUROAVIA (European Association of Aerospace Students) are once again joining forces to present a workshop series about the application of engineering simulation in the aerospace industry.

Participants will receive a hands-on, interactive introduction to the fundamentals of engineering simulation and will learn from top simulation experts how to leverage the free, cloud-based SimScale platform in testing their aerospace designs. Every session comes with an optional homework assignment.

Submitting all three homework assignments will qualify you for a free Online Professional Training (value of 500€) as well as a certificate of participation. There is no prior knowledge or software required to join this workshop series. All participants will get free access to SimScale with all the required simulation features.

Overview:

  • The Aerospace Workshop will consist of a series of 3 one-hour webinar sessions
  • The live, online sessions will take place on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. Central European Time, with the first session starting on September 22nd
  • Get dedicated and individual support to learn how to perform fluid dynamics, structural, or thermodynamics simulations
  • Receive a Certificate of Completion and a SimScale Professional Training (value of 500€) by submitting all 3 simulation homework assignments

OPTIMIZATION OF A WING

Session one: September 22h – 5:00pm CEST

In the first session we will optimize the aerodynamics of an aircraft wing in order to increase lift and decrease drag. We will, therefore, prepare an external aerodynamics simulation of the wing to test different winglet designs.

JET ENGINE BRACKET

Session two: September 29th – 5:00pm CEST

The second session will introduce you to the challenge of designing a jet engine bracket, which is connecting the jet engine to the wing. You will learn to optimize the bracket design based on a structural simulation.

TURBOFAN

Session three: October 6th – 5:00pm CEST

Following up the second session, you will learn how to optimize a turbofan regarding vibration stress. You will learn how to determine the eigenfrequencies and physical reactions of the bracket due harmonic excitation.
