A Special Plan

The SimScale Academic Plan is a specialized plan for qualified students, researchers and educators. The Academic Plan is similar to the SimScale Professional Plan giving you full access to the SimScale platform, with 3000 core hours per year and private projects.

The SimScale Academic Plan is for:

  • Students who are members of a Student Design Team (ie Formula Student, Formula SAE, SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Design, etc)
  • Students who are writing a Thesis or Dissertation
  • Students who are enrolled in a school course using SimScale and have a valid code from their instructor
  • Researchers who are teaching a course with SimScale or working on a research project
  • Educators who are teaching a course with SimScale or working on a research project

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any special hardware?

No. SimScale is a web-based software runs on Macs, PCs, Linux, and Chromebooks. All you need is an internet connection.

How much does it cost?

SimScale is free for students, researchers, and educators

If I already have SimScale's Free Community Plan, can I switch to the Academic Plan?

Yes, if you meet the criteria for the Academic Plan, you can apply. You will need to have a registered account with SimScale before applying.

What if I don't qualify for the Academic Plan?

Don't worry! With the SimScale Free Community Plan you have a access to all of the features of SimScale, you will just not be able to create private projects.

How long will my subscription to the Academic Plan last?

The Academic Plan lasts 6 months and can be extended on a case by case basis. After 6 months, your account will automatically be changed back to a the Community Plan. Your private projects will remain private.

Is there a special plan for educators?

There is not a special plan, but educators can apply for the Academic Plan for both themselves and for their students.

How can I get SimScale for my students?

Every user creates his or her own SimScale account. This is true whether the user is a student or teacher.

Can I use SimScale's Academic Plan for university research?

Yes, but only if the research is of purely academic nature and not for government or commercial use.
