I’m looking to estimate the terminal velocity of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). I have zero experience with simscale and I’m looking for a project to import models into to run the calculation.
I have found one “Terminal Velocity” project, but it seem to be outdated, I have no idea what is needed to update it. Does any one have the time to have a look at it? If it works with the sphere I assume I can get it working with the model.
The (very old) project you shared seems to have only one successful simulation run in it. You can check out the settings applied to run that simulation within the tree of that simulation run under ‘Settings’ as follows:
However, the project does not provide much help to achieve your main requirement which is terminal velocity calculation. Since you are new to SimScale, let’s first break your problem / requirement down to what we want to extract and what’s the best way to do it would be.
I assume you want to calculate the drag coefficient of the model as a first iteration, is that correct? You can check out our tutorials to see how you can do that. This tutorial about car aerodynamics will help you add relevant result controls to your UAV model in order to get the drag coefficients. This tutorial on a drone would help you with the general simulation setup of your UAV model and some tips like using Symmetry boundary condition to reduce computation requirements. I would recommend you to try these out before you apply it to your own model.
