CFD for a boat Hull

I am building a boat from scratch and I’m working on doing CFD analysis for our current design before we go into production. Our boat will ideally be going about 20mph (9m/s) so that’s the speed I would like to test at. I am very new to CFD analysis so if there is also a way to find lowest theoretical speed for getting to boat on to plane that would be super cool!

The boat hull will be made out of carbon fiber and will ideally have a polished finish and have a total weight of ~400lbs including skipper.

I don’t know if there are extra calculations etc that need to be done before setting up the CFD but this is where I am now. If you can help suggest how to set this up in SimScale and/or point me in the right direction that would be great!

Since you’re new to SimScale, the best approach moving forward should be to run a few introductory tutorials first to grasp the key fundamental concepts. Here are some which might be helpful:

Then, I’d also advise you not to go for a Multiphase study, at least not until you are a bit more familiarized with SimScale/CFD. You can instead try a single phase Incompressible study by creating a flow region similar to this:
