Wind Simulation over a city region

For my Thesis i have to find out how the topography of a specific region changes the wind speed and direction. Therefore I have already created a 3D Model of the area and successfully uploaded it to SimScale. I also have trief a couple runs but could not achieve the result I require.

The goal ist to identify the change of wind speed and direction changes above the water area within the region.

thanks in advance.

Hey there!

I just finished having a look at your simulation.

It seems to me that your setup is mostly ok, and you are getting realistic results. I would improve a couple of aspects:

  1. Use a finer mesh, especially in the terrain to better capture the details.
  2. Allow the computation to run for more iterations, in order to get lower residuals.

If you end up with a mesh that is too large, I think you can optimize it by decreasing the vertical dimension of the enclosure.

What results are you expecting that the simulation is not matching? Can you please describe this to us so we can help you get there?

I am expecting streamlines that flow across the region, the color and direction of the streamlines should then indicate me how the topography affects the wind speed and direction. This I have to do from 32 angles to cover the relevant wind directions in this region.

In short: I want to know what wind direction and speed I have at a certain point in this region at a certain initial wind direction/ speed.

I understand!

In order to learn how to plot the streamlines in your simulation results, please refer to the following tutorial:

Perhaps, if you need to perform many simulations and your interest is to compare the same location, you should use a Result Control Item - Probe Point, to extract the velocity vector at the desired point. You can learn how to do this in this article:
