Where do I get the convective coefficient from?

If it is a function of the surface area and fluid properties (surrounding air) why am I expected to enter myself and not have it calculated?

Hi @andrey_gvrd!

The value varies depending on whether the region around has an active or passive cooling. So the heat transfer coefficient might vary. The heat transfer coefficient for Aluminium-Air for passive cooling is 5 \frac{W}{m^2K}, whereas it would be somewhere between 30 and 50 for active convection.

It sure would be nice have something like a big library as indirectly proposed by you. Feel free to post your ideas/wishes and of course feature requests into this section if you like: Feature Request Section

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the convection coefficient specific just to the medium (air) and doesn’t account for the source material (metal / aluminium)?

Also, I’ve seen it differ from 5 to 100 in many of the projects, depending on the location of the source surface, are they all wrong?
