Simulation domain creates 2 volumes

Hey guys!

Started with some testing of SimScale yesterday and tried to introduce my first own shape not - created via OnShape and want to start a convective heat transfer simulation. However I do not get it running as it seems to separate my simulation domain into 2 separate volumes.

I used “Open inner region” operation to prepare my body CFD simulation. However it generates 2 volumes although I do not get why. My shape is constructed as one solid body. The complete inner volume should be one block too. I do not find any separation that could cause the mesh to generate 2 volumes.

Any idea on how I can check that or what can cause that issue? Project can be found here:

Hi @smarquart,

You should not ‘keep existing parts’. You need flow region only.

Oh, damn it. Did not manage to find that on my own. Followed a youtube tutorial and the instructor insisted on enabling that option - and I personally did not think about it anymore.
