SimScale Error When Creating External Flow Volume

Hello, good morning.

I am currently working on a project to optimize the shark fin area of a race car by varying the yaw angle. After modifying the prototype and cleaning up the geometry to avoid import issues, I encountered a problem in SimScale.

The geometry imports successfully and does not show any errors. I have also simplified the model by removing all unnecessary parts, including the cockpit, internal engine components, the gearbox, and other non-essential elements.

However, when I try to create the External Flow Volume, SimScale returns an error, and I cannot understand why. Since the geometry itself appears to be valid and error-free, I am unsure what is causing the issue.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem or could suggest possible causes and solutions?

Thank you in advance for your help. SimScale Login

Hi @jruiz_gim_nez ,

Would it be possible for you to try creating the flow volume in your preferred CAD software instead? After taking a closer look at the model, it seems there are several small issues with the car geometry. One issue we found is near the intersection between the door and the monocoque.

Please let me know whether this works or not.

Thanks!
Bryan

Hi @jruiz_gim_nez,

Does creating the external flow volume in an external CAD software works? Additionally, I would highly recommend you to take a look at this article on “Why Do Geometry Operations fails”, which may help you to create a cleaner CAD models in the future.

Thanks!
