I am import a simple test model from Rhino and wanted to set all the faces of the Brep so they could used with Saved Selections, using the NS_Taggig workflow.
I can get this to work is i name the Object in Rhino as a closed Brep Or explode it and name the surfaces when i import the model but the later breaks as it creates an extra saved selection when it joins the parts together. in Sim Scale on Import (NS_01::NS_BOTTOM Shouldn’t also be the whole box.
I have read the NS_Tagging can use User Text from Rhino, but this doesn’t work. Either attached as user text to the whole model or to the individual brep faces like shown in this Rhino Forum post.

So, concerning the tagging issue:
From a set-up simulation point-of-view, the “double naming” will not cause any issues, since SimScale differs between what is a "volume"and what is a “surface”. Therefore, it does not matter that they have the name/tag and you can proceed with your modelling;
In order to improve the importing of CAD geometries, you could also tag the volume itself within Rhino to avoid any confusions in the workflow;
Here is a tutorial on NS-Tagging that might be useful for your current and next simulations with SimScale.

Good to know i hadn’t gotten as far as simulation but wanted to check on this first
Unfortunately because SimScale is only reading the object names from Rhino and not the User Text of an object, its only possible to either name/tag the whole closed Brep/Volume or explode it and tag the faces. Just tried to sub-surface select the faces in Rhino and set their names, but this just overrides the name of the whole Brep/Volume.
Ah I had used this tutorial but has miss-read the user defined text note as User Text, rather than as the user defining the object name and SimScale reading this. for the NS tags.
Would it be possible for SimScale to also check for Rhino User Text on import to see if it has a NS_Tag?
Also not yet scriptable from the Rhino side as not in the Rhino API, but if the Importer could read the Rhino Named Selections in the Rhino file this would be super helpful. As named section works for both volumes (Poly Surfaces and Sub-Surface section (See Image.below)
As to your question, I need to check internally if such feature exists. Nonetheless, you can “reselect” faces/volumes and rename them according to your wishes within SimScale. You can have a single surface that belongs to one or more “Saved Selections” - this does not mean that your geometry is “re-splitted” or lost some geometrical property. The different instancies under “Saved Selections” are there to help setting materials/physics/boundary conditions to the right volumes/faces. Therefore, as long as you are able to set the right settings for correct parts, there should be no problem due to naming or different saved selections containing same faces. Hope this also helps you further!
