Problem to extract an external fluid volume in CAD mode

Hello,
I’m Don. I am trying to create an external air flow simulation of a bicycle. I have designed the bicycle and the helmet in SolidWorks. The rider has been imported into SolidWorks as an STL file. I have checked the mesh several times to see if it has any inconsistencies. I am uploading my assembly via zip. In CAD mode, I want to create the fluid volume, but I cannot create it because some surfaces are incorrect.

So how can I create my simulation volume with an STL file?

Hello Don,
thanks for reaching out to us here in the forum.

The issue with the .stl file is that it’s only surface and not volume-based.

What i would suggest you is to perform the subtract operation within Solidworks and upload that geometry to SimScale for meshing as a .stp file.

Another option is to use the hex-dominant mesher with the bounding box included like in this tutorial.

Best regards Sebastian
