Porous zone

In the above-shared project, I need to calculate the mass flow rate on the surface of the radiator
I gave the surface average condition. but it shows surface cannot be selected from cell zones?
is there any way to calculate the mass flow rate at a surface of a cell zone?

Hi!

That is correct - for the moment, it’s not possible to select a cell zone for an area average result control.

In the post-processor, you would be able to determine the flow rate that goes through the side pod, by using the bulk calculator, which would give you a rough estimate of the flow rate:

Reverse engineering the Darcy-Forchheimer formula (based on the delta P obtained) would give you a slightly better approximation - see the formula here.

Hi
I didn’t get how you calculated it. Is the picture shown above describes the mass flow rate at only the porous zone or the entire flow volume or only the cut section plane?

It would be very helpful if you can show the step by step process of calculating the mass flow rate at only the porous zone.

You can use the above project to describe the steps. I have completed the simulation in it but am struggling the find the mass flow rate through the porous zone.

Hi,

In fact, the bulk calculator was improved to also show the value within cell zones, so if you place the cutting plane in such a way that it cuts the radiator, you should be able to see the volumetric flow rate through it.

Therefore, first enable the bulk calculator:

And then place the cutting plane in such a way that it slices the radiator:

The bulk calculator will show the values for each one of the sub-regions. I highlighted the information box that represents the radiator sub-region.

PS: make sure to review the porous media input. Currently, in the local x and y coordinates, there is no resistance:
