My original Geometry and Flow region/assigning materials

I have imported a stl from tinkercad. It is a simple pipe. I pre-processed the pipe in CAD mode to define the Flow region, but I still have my original geometry identified as Solid 1. If I try to run the simulation, I get error:“Please ensure that all CAD entities are assigned a material or advanced concept. Missing material or advanced concepts were detected for the following entities: solid1”.

I have assigned the Flow region as air. But I cannot figure out how to assign a material to Solid 1. I also cannot figure out how to remove Solid 1.

Should I be removing Solid 1 or assigning a material to it?

Hi @bgleckle1 thanks for posting on the forum and welcome to the SimScale Community :handshake:

This message appears because the Incompressible analysis type does not take into account solid-fluid interactions and you should only simulate the flow region part of your domain - in short, the right approach is to delete the solid part. To delete the “Solid 1” you can use a delete body operation in CAD Edit.

Another point is that we usually advise users to avoid using STL files for simulation. Since you have a simple cylinder, could you try remodelling it and exporting as Parasolid or STEP instead?

Cheers
Igor

Deleting my original geometry with the CAD mode “delete body” did it!

Thank you!
