Multiple boundary conditions error

Dear SimScale users,

I ran into an issue of multiple boundary conditions with my project. I wanted to conduct a conjugate heat transfer (v2) simulation where I have a chip with some cores generating heat and an insulated solid put on the chip, then there is air around the entire thing. When I added a boundary condition to the surface of the solid above the chip to make it adiabatic, I would face an error of multiple boundary conditions on the surface of the solid.

I understand that the surfaces of the solid are the interfaces between the solid and the air and also the chip, so that there is heat transferred and I cannot add another boundary conditions on them. And I also learned there were some other ways around, say, I could just remove the solid and make the void surface of the air domain an adiabatic wall.

However, none of these methods solve my issue. I need to keep the solid and I also need to make them adiabatic or almost unable to transfer heat.

Could you please provide my some suggestions? (Sorry the project cannot be public, but I got some pictures to show my CAD model) Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Sincerely

Hi,

One idea that comes to mind: you can define the “adiabatic” contacts as a thin layer resistance contact, with a large “layer thickness” and/or a very small “thermal conductivity”. This will allow little to no conduction through the contact that you want to make adiabatic.
