Mesh Diverges at a Certain Point

Good morning,

I’m trying to achieve a cross flow in this box using the fans in the simulation below

I keep getting this error message every time I try to run the simulation:

"Velocity field started diverging. Please check the mesh quality near the reported location and try refining the mesh. If the problem occured near a boundary, please check the boundary conditions. In case of doubt, please ask for assistance via our support chat. Velocity = 1.04284e+07 at position: (2.477 m, 0.03886 m, 0.1581 m). "

I have tried:

-Adding no slip walls but it gives me unsteady graphs

-Replacing the fan geometry, but the same error appeared
-Refining the mesh around parts of high non-orthogonality, but the same error appeared

Any advice would be super useful, as I’m still relatively new to CFD

Hello!

The usual troubleshooting steps are listed in this page - have you already trying to go through these?

Cheers

Hi!

Yes, I’ve tried different mesh refinements to help it. Also I made a mistake in the title the solution diverges, but it shows the mesh is okay

Hello,

A couple of hints:

  • Following the steps in the article that I linked, you will notice that there is a very small face very close to the point of divergence (have a close and careful look). Removing those faces from the turbine is a good way to proceed
  • Also, I noticed that we have a convective heat transfer simulation for this project. However I do not see any heat sinks/heat sources. If you are expecting the entire flow domain to be at 30 Celsius, I’d encourage you to use “Incompressible” instead.

Cheers
