What is the best way of checking the CAD data (CATpart) before submitting it to Simscale.
Also, is there a way of editing surfaces or elements within Simscale and erasing imported surfaces and modifying parts for good contact creation?
Thank you.

Hi!
Please visit our CAD preparation page for hints/best practices when it comes to CAD preparation. This other article (on common CAD faults) is also pretty useful.
The CAD preparation page also contains a list with the CAD formats which are supported by SimScale. As long as the CAD is correctly prepared, any of those formats should work just fine.
On your second question, currently there is no way to edit surfaces/elements, but such functionality should be available soon. For contact creation, we do have an operation which improves contact detection, more specifically, the imprint operation.
Cheers
Thank you for your reply. However, is there any way that you can make such modifications within SIMSCALE rather than having to go back to the CAD model?
Dear rhaidar,
We have recently launched a brand new functionality called “CAD Mode” on SimScale, which allows you to do CAD pre-processing operations within the SimScale environment. Simply right click your geometry and select “Edit in CAD Mode (beta)”.
Since this is in very early beta evaluation phase, the functionality is limited, but you are already invited to please get familiar with the interface, understand the functionalities currently provided, and provide us with your valuable feedback and suggestions about your experiences, and how you would like to see the application evolve.
We have created a separate forum for CAD Mode related discussions: CAD Mode Support - SimScale CAE Forum
Also, please have a look at this getting-started document to give you a taste of what we have implemented in the first beta release: CAD Mode - Getting Started - Google Docs
Looking forward to your evaluation and feedback!
@rhaidar If you are using Onshape to create your CAD you could do the following. Select the whole assembly, right click, select Check interference. That will tell you if there are problems with your CAD.
Regards,
Fernando
