Performance analysis of the VAWT-drag type was conducted numerically by using CFD-Incompressible Simscale platform, where the focal point of research was to study aerodynamics behaviour of particular model, to harness maximum mechanical power § at low wind speed, effect of design parameter and orientations on the performance of the wind turbine. Using Simscale simulation Cl, Cd and Cm on the turbine rotor is predicted.
The 3D geometry of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) has been created by using Autodesk Inventor and Save as to .stp file. Then Import .stp file to Simscale cad section.
The mesh chosen was a Hex-dominant, and it was created by the Automatic mesher of Simscale. With a coarse fineness, enough resolution is obtained to identify the Cd, Cl on the rotor body.
Multi Reference Frame (MRF):
To perform a rotating dynamic simulation, Moving reference frame (MRF) capability of CFD solver has been activated in the simulated in “Rotating zone”.
