Scaling down model

Hi,

I was wondering what the effect of scaling down my model would have, I assume the mesh is quicker to compute but is less accurate than a larger model.

Do values for pressure and velocity get affected if the model is scaled down. i.e same flow rate through a scaled down inlet would cause increased velocity?

Thanks.

Hi!

The result fields do get affected if the proportion of the model dimensions to the flow speed is not maintained. Moreover, this proportionality must be computed using the Reynolds number.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Compute the Reynolds number for your original conditions (full scale, flow speed)
  2. Scale down the model to your desired proportions
  3. Use the Re to compute the new flow speed for the scaled model
