Modified Gauge Pressure

Hello everyone,

I am setting up a Convective Heat Transfer simulation and got stuck on the Modified Gauge Pressure initial condition. What makes the Modified Gauge Pressure different from Gauge Pressure? I could not find any information in the Documentation or by doing a Google Search.

Thank you for any help that anyone can provide!

Hi!

The modified gauge pressure p' is commonly used when we have buoyancy effects (such as in convective heat transfer simulations) and also multiphase simulations. Here is the formula of interest.

p' = p - \rho.g.h

In this case, p' is the modified gauge pressure, p is the gauge pressure, and then we have density times gravity times the height of column of a fluid (it will be meaningless if it’s air). In short, the usual approach is still to set this value to zero Pa.

Cheers

Thank you!
