How to make impeller in saved selection after deleting solid body (Centrifugal Pump Tutorial)

The tutorial of centrifugal pump asks me to delete solid bodies after generated internal fluid volume. How could I put impeller in the saved selection actually? If I already deleted the impeller, I could never put it in the saved selection. If I remain the rotating fluid, fluid volume and impeller, I could put it in the saved selection. But then I run the mesh, it will show meshing error related to the impeller. The tutorial does not specify why and how to do it but only provide the example having Volume and MRF Rotating Zone with impeller in saved selection. Could you provide assistance to solve this problem?

Hi!

A couple of pointers: when you import the tutorial project, it already contains a flow region with a saved selection created for the impeller, so in theory you don’t have to re-create the saved selection if you follow the tutorial thoroughly:

The tutorial goes over the workflow of creating a flow region because oftentimes you start off with a CAD model containing the solid parts only, so it’s useful to know the workflow.

Now, note that, when you create the flow region, you will still capture the negative representation of the impeller within the flow region. As you rightfully mentioned, the impeller is deleted, but the negative representation of it remains.

The negative representation of the impeller is what gets assigned to the saved selection. E.g. if you right-click on a face to hide it…

You will then see the negative of the impeller faces, captured by the flow region.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for your feedback! It helps a lot!
