How to create a riverbed mesh?

Hello,

I am trying to set up a hydraulic simulation of a short pice of a riverbed (30m) and I have some very general questions how to aproach this project.

I have measured 3D terrain data of the riverbed and meshed the points. (s. project link)
Now I have a few questions:
How should I preopare the geometry so I can define boundary conditions?
At the moment the geometry is a infinetly thin surface - should I embedd it into a solid block?
Should I create seperate .stl “wall objects” to surround the simulation area?
Does anyone have experience how to run a project like this?

The goal of this project is to get information about the waterlevel and velocities in the domain for different discharges. There should be one inlet boundary condition with a defined, fexed flowrate.
The outflow bc would be a pressure outlet. The riverbed is impermeable.
I think a two phase flow would be the right simulation type.
Does the wall roughness play an imoprtant role in the setup?

Thank you very much in advance,
Best regards
Mathias

Hey @mathias2,
this is a very interesting project :D. I dont have any experince in 3d riverbed calculation.
But i think your stl surrounding is a good first approche.
