How to Calculate the Aerodynamic Balance of a Racecar

The aerodynamic balance of a racecar is an important parameter when evaluating its performance potential.

When developing the aerodynamics of a racecar the aerodynamic balance needs to be calculated. In order to achieve the Force and Momentum report by SimScale can be used.

One method to calculate the aerodynamic balance is using a moment report at one of the axes of the car. Using this report and dividing the resulting moment with the wheelbase of the racecar results in the Force for the Front Wheel.

Force Front = \frac{Momentum Rear}{Wheelbase}

In the next step, the resulting force of the front wheel is used to calculate the percentage of the front force.

\% Front = \frac{Force Front}{Total Downforce}
