I’m trying to run a simulation for my 70mm EDF. However, I’m not sure how to make it so that the air is actively drawn in by the EDF and accelerated out the back, just like in normal RC plane flight. Can anyone help me out with this? The link down bellow is the cad file of the edf. I cant find any good youtube tutorials, and AI like Chat gpt or gemini cant help that much too…
What you want is one of two standard approaches, and which one depends on your question. If you want thrust and power numbers, use an actuator disk: replace the fan with a cylinder region that adds a momentum source, and the disk accelerates the flow like the real fan would. If you want the actual blade flow field, use an MRF rotating zone: cylinder region around the rotor, set the RPM from your KV rating times your pack voltage as a starting point, frozen rotor, k-omega SST, velocity inlet at your expected flight speed, pressure outlet. Read thrust straight off the rotor forces and sanity check it against the manufacturer’s bench numbers, QX Motor publishes those. Resolved-blade transient is overkill for what you described.
