Fluid volume acceleration in simscale

I want to measure the fluid shear stresses experienced in a small enclosed volume of fluid when it experiences a sudden stop after travelling at a velocity. I am modeling this with a cylindrical volume with fluid properties and I want it to experience an acceleration. Is this something that can be modeled in Simscale? the built-in AI tool was not very helpful with this. Thanks!

Hi, that sounds like a scenario that could benefit from solid body motion: https://www.simscale.com/docs/simulation-setup/advanced-concepts/solid-body-motions/

Thanks for the quick response. It looks like solid body motions only allows velocities. I don’t think I could manipulate this to simulate an acceleration. Do you have any other ideas?

Within solid body motions, one way to control acceleration is via a rotating motion having a “point on axis” very far away from the part (i.e. the part will rotate about a point so distant that the motion will be approximately linear). You can define a time-dependent rotational velocity, which allows you to control the acceleration.
