Exchanger flow pattern when closing valve

Hi. I am trying to simulate a cooling water heat exchanger, focusing on flow velocities when closing the outlet valve. Heat transfer is not (so far) the focus, so I have only defined the cooling stream (tube flows). I created a simulation but I have a few questions, glad if you can help me.

The run takes sometimes 6 hours to finish. Do you know how to configure the options to make it less time consuming? I probably have some tolerances more demanding than needed, but I don’t know where to look.

When trying to simulate a closing valve, what are the possibilities in this simulation? i am thinking on creating a table for outlet velocity, keeping inlet pressure steady, what do you suggest?

thanks!

Hi,

The only simulation in the linked project took 12 minutes to run. Did you delete the previous runs?

Cheers

Hi Ricardo,

Sorry, the previous link was incorrect. This is the simulation I am trying to configure:

Hi,

The exact mesh used in the “lengthy” runs (which took around 4 hours) were deleted, but from the solver log it appears that those meshes had around 11M cells.

Running 1000 iterations on a 11M cells mesh using 8 processors is pretty decent, so it looks normal to me.

In the most recent runs you ended up using a much coarser mesh (3M~ cells), which also results in faster runs. This geometry is a bit tricky with dozens of small channels, so the simulations should take a bit of time to run.

Thanks Ricardo.

What do you suggest for simulating a valve closing in the discharge side? Not a total closure, but a sudden movement, say from 100% to 20% for a brief period.
