Hello! I am using SimScale for a time-harmonic magnetic simulation with thermal simulation coupling. The simulator will calculate a temperature rise (see fig) but it is not clear for this simulation what duration this temperature rise is over. How can you tell what the duration of the simulation is? Can you modify it?
Thank you!
Hi @jonbmartin, thanks for posting on the forum and welcome to the SimScale Community
Keep in mind time-harmonic magnetics is not a transient solver, that’s why you can’t modify it. What you’re looking for should be Time-Transient Magnetics.
Unfortunately thermal coupling is not currently available for this solver, but it’s on our Roadmap and should be implemented soon!
Cheers

I see, thank you!
My main problem is knowing how the temperature rise is calculated with the time-harmonic magnetics. I would assume there is some fixed duration set somewhere to get a temperature change in the thermal coupling simulation? Is this a given quantity anywhere? I can’t find it in the documentation.

Hi @jonbmartin,
To my understanding, the temperature rise is calculated for the steady-state regime, taking the energy balance into account. I’ll double check this information with the EMAG team and get back to you as soon as I have a reply.

Ah, nice! That makes sense. Thanks @igaviano!
