Cl(f) and cl(r)

Hello! I hope everyone is safe and healthy during these difficult times.

I was just wondering what the cl(f) and the cl® represent in the force coefficients plot of the post processing of a cfd simulation.

Thanks!

Hi @sungjoo_lim!

  • total front lift coefficient: Cl(f)
  • total rear lift coefficient: Cl(r)

Hope that helps!

How does SimScale know what is front and rear? Does it depend on the coordinate system I used in my CAD? I’m just wondering because I keep getting significantly higher magnitude of Cl(f) despite analyzing a rear diffuser. The more downforce I gain the more the Cl(f) increases in magnitude. For instance, I’m getting a -0.02 Cl(r) and -0.5 Cl(f) for one of my analysis. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Sorry if this is a noob question, I’m totally new to CFD.
