Can simscale handle 3 fluid VoF problems?

Hello,

Can SimScale handle a 3-fluid VoF setup such as oil / water / air?

I know OpenFOAM supports this through the multiphaseInterFoam solver, but I couldn’t find anything in the SimScale documentation confirming whether this is currently supported.

I also noticed there now seem to be two different VoF-based workflows/solvers in SimScale (the dedicated “Multiphase” analysis and the newer “Multi-purpose Multiphase” solver), and I’m a bit confused about the intended use cases and differences between them.

Currently both “multiphase” and “multi-purpose” only allow 2 phases in the setup. There are plans to extend the multi-purpose capabilities to n phases, however this is not in the immediate roadmap.

These are two solvers that happen to have a bit of overlap as far as capabilities go (i.e. multiphase capabilities). But multi-purpose is a more generic solver, allowing for single/multiphase, CHT, cavitation, multicomponent, steady-state/transient, and more types of studies.
