Applying transient surface heat flux to an annular brake-pad contact region without partitioning the CAD

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a transient thermal simulation of a Formula Student brake disc in SimScale.

The disc geometry is already imported, but its friction faces are continuous and have not been partitioned into separate annular brake-pad contact regions.

I need to apply surface heat flux only to the annular track swept by the brake pads, rather than to the entire friction face.

I understand that SimScale supports coordinate-dependent heat-flux formulas. Is it possible to use a conditional formula or constrained region to restrict the applied heat flux to a specified radial range on the existing face, without modifying or reimporting the CAD?

The disc lies in the XY plane, with its rotation axis along Z. If this is possible, could someone explain how to define the constrained region and the appropriate formula in the current SimScale interface?

If not, is partitioning the friction faces in CAD the recommended approach?

Thank you!
