I recently used Convective Heat Transfer Analysis in Sim Scale for my class project. Thanks to Sim Scale supporting team, the simulation went well. But now I want to know the background process of this simulation, which means I want to know what kind of equations and methods are used for this simulation. If it is possible I want to calculate the theoretical value of this project and compare it to my simulation results. So in short if there is such an equation, is it even possible to calculate Predictive Value of the Analysis using that equation?
Hi @a2312653, thanks for posting on the forum
We’re glad SimScale helped with your class project and make sure to share your results with the forum community in a separate post!
As to your question
Unfortunately it’s a bit tough to calculate the solutions field manually - that’s why CFD comes in handy for these sorts of complex tridimensional analysis. If you’d like to dive deeper in what’s happening in the background, we do have a SimWiki article that should be a good start:
In short, the three main equations are the ones for Conservation of Mass (continuity), Momentum (Navier-Stokes) and Energy (1st Law of Thermodynamics). However, you can find hourly analysis spreadsheets and softwares on the internet which perform a 1D analysis to compare your CFD results. These are usually used for simple HVAC calculation of thermal loads.
Cheers
