Incompressible flow inside two globe valves

A Tesla valve, called by Tesla a valvular conduit, is a fixed-geometry passive check valve. It allows a fluid to flow preferentially in one direction, without moving parts. The device is named after Nikola Tesla, who was awarded U.S. Patent 1,329,559 in 1920 for its invention.

This project involves meshing internally a Ball Valve, and then simulating its' operation when water flows through it. A ball valve is a structure that is placed between two pipelines, connecting them through its' hollow interior by utilizing two diametrically placed holes. For this case, the floating ball has a hollow cylinder through its center, with a diameter same as the inner one of the pipelines. The Cylinder is not parallel to the pipes, and instead it is placed diagonally. A steady state incompressible flow simulation is executed to visualize the flow and its' re-circulation, as well as the critical areas of the pressure drop.

The objective of this project was to calculate the pressure drop across a ball valve using the CFD method. For this, three simulation scenarios were created: fully open valve (0 degrees), partially closed valve in 40 degrees and partially closed valve in 70 degrees.

In this study, the flow coefficient (K_v value) of a globe valve was calculated.

This project establish a comparison between 120mm and 130mm EBT valve.
