This project investigates the aerodynamic performance of a Darrieus Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) through a detailed CFD simulation. The turbine model consists of three straight blades based on the NACA 0018 airfoil, with a height of 1 m and a rotor radius of 0.5 m. Using an incompressible flow formulation and the k-ω SST turbulence model, the simulation evaluates pressure fields, velocity contours, vortex shedding, aerodynamic forces, and torque generation. A rotating MRF (Multiple Reference Frame) approach is applied to represent the rotor motion within a controlled wind field. The objective is to characterize the turbine’s aerodynamic behavior and provide insights for performance optimization.
