An ornithopter is a bio-inspired flying machine that mimics the flapping motion of bird or insect wings to generate lift and thrust. This project focuses on designing and developing a lightweight, motor-driven ornithopter capable of achieving controlled flight using a flapping mechanism. The system uses a high-speed brushless DC motor (e.g., 2204–2300KV) to drive a crankshaft mechanism that converts rotary motion into periodic wing flapping (±35°). The wings are made from lightweight materials such as carbon fiber rods and flexible membranes to ensure efficient lift generation. A microcontroller (such as Arduino or ESP32) is used for control, along with sensors like MPU6050 for stabilization. The design aims to replicate natural flight dynamics, improve aerodynamic efficiency, and explore applications in surveillance, environmental monitoring, and robotics research.
