Validation case using a WES weir to test the accuracy

In this project incompressible fluid flow simulation of a conical draft tube is carried out. The parameters data is collected from the course book on fluid dynamics and the validation of CFD simulation result with the theoretical result is also performed. Steady state incompressible fluid flow simulation is selected for the given case.
The draft tube is a pipe of gradually increasing area, which connects the outlet of the water turbine's runner to the tail race. Draft tube helps to convert the exit velocity head into pressure or potential head.

The aim of this project is to calculate the pressure drop in turbulent flow through a straight smooth pipe. Airflow inside a smooth pipe, which has 4 mm of diameter and 2 m length, was simulated for 50, 40, 30, 20, and 10 m/s inlet velocities.  Incompressible steady-state flow analysis with k-omega SST turbulence conditions is considered for the flow. The results from the CFD study are compared with those from an analytical study for validation purpose. It was noted that using SimScale even with automatic meshing as well as solver settings, high accuracy can be achieved.

This validation focuses on validating the moment coefficients using experimental results obtained by RWDI in their wind tunnel tests, published in the paper (Calin Dragoiescu, Jason Garber and Suresh Kumar, 2006) where results were published using two techniques, a high-frequency force balance (HFFB) and high-frequency pressure integration (HFPI) which uses tap points. Both showing mostly good agreement between the two, with HFFB expected to be more accurate.

To validate CFD results against the Architectural Institute of Japan's Case F results both from the field and wind tunnel,

The purpose of this project is to use experimental results from the Architectural Institute of Japan to validate CFD results gained from SimScale. The case being validated is Case E, which consists a complex of buildings with simplified geometry. Many scenarios are presented in Case E, The scenarios used to validate the SimScale platform were the North, East, South and Westerly winds for the after construction scenario.

The SimScale CFD results were compared to the experimental results and found to have good correlation. Some underprediction was seen in the k-epsilon models in the strong wind regions and underprediction in the wake regions, but is a known trait of the K-epsilon model and is acceptable and should be considered when evaluating results.

The purpose of this project is to use experimental results from the Architectural Institute of Japan to validate CFD results gained from SimScale. The case being validated is Case D, which consists of a single high-rise building, surrounded by blocks of simplified buildings. The geometry used was the scaled geometry from the data file provided by the Architectural Institute of Japan, and measurements were taken at points also listed in the data file.

The purpose of this project is to validate the accuracy of the solver for transport and distribution of Gas (passive scalar) in an indoor environment.The airflow pattern (velocity) and concentration results from CFD are to be compared with experimental data obtained from full-scale tests.

NASA's Turbulence Modelling Resource was created with the purpose of offering documentation on the various RANS turbulence models available and some reference cases to verify the implementation of such models.

Albeit the differences in  the implementation of the models in OpenFOAM and NASA documentation, with this project we will see if we can get comparable results.
