Static structural FEA of a dual coil-spring articulated ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) designed for foot drop correction in sprint-phase gait (7–10 m/s), developed for BMEN 422. The design uses a bilateral hinge (medial + lateral pivot on a shared axis) with two independent linear springs — a stance spring (k1) resisting plantarflexion at heel strike and a swing spring (k2) assisting dorsiflexion during swing. Materials: Al 6061-T6 (uprights, hinge blocks), SS 304 (pivot pin), GFRP (footplate), spring steel (springs), polypropylene (cuff). Two load cases are analyzed: (1) stance — peak sprint GRF (~2100 N) applied to the footplate contact patch, cuff top fixed; (2) swing — no GRF, swing spring preload applied to check dorsiflexion assist. Targets: factor of safety ≥3.0, ≤5 N·m plantarflexion resistance, no permanent deformation, ≤600 g total mass.
