In this project we are calculating the heat transfer and pressure drop across a bank of heated tubes. In addition, we are comparing our CFD calculated answer to a simplified engineering solution from Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer by Incropera.

This is an area for me to do initial work regarding projects.

This project is a comparison of using Rotating Wall, MRF, and AMI to impart the rotation on an aboriginal boomerang. The goal is to compare both the performance and accuracy of the various rotation methods in both steady state and transient simulations.

The goal of this project is to evaluate the aerodynamics of a Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby car. This is the first in a series of projects involving many concepts including turbulence modeling, advanced meshing, multiple reference frames, and aerodynamic optimization.  Follow along as we learn more about aerodynamics and how to build an aerodynamic BSA Pinewood Derby winner.

In this project we are analyzing the steady state heat transfer of a water cooled hot plate. The primary targets of the evaluation are to find the maximum temperature within the hot plate, the temperature change of the cooling fluid, and the pressure loss through the the water tube system. Solutions from the conjugate heat transfer CFD solution are compared to the theoretical solutions to determine the overall correlation of the values.

Four times a year the National Association for Stock Car Automotive Racing (NASCAR) visits oval tracks larger than 2.0 miles in length (Daytona and Talladega). These four events utilize restricted intake motors in order to decrease the overall horsepower and, ultimately, the overall speed of the vehicles. A consequence of this reduced horsepower is the increased dependence on the aerodynamic drag advantage gained by drafting behind either another car or a group of cars.

Previous work has studied the effects of the draft between two Ahmed Bodies as well as two NASCAR style vehicles, but there is limited information about the draft effect on more than two vehicles. This project uses the simplified Ahmed Body with a minimal grid to study the relative effects of the draft as the number of vehicles in line increases. The goal is to find the optimum number of vehicles for total draft reduction.

This is the second in a series of projects about studying a Pinewood Derby vehicle. In this project we add in the track as well as the wheels and axles on the car.
