Our guest speaker, Mr. Nick Hopper, Technical Director at Monodraught Ltd. showcases the value of using cloud-based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to engineer innovative solutions for sustainable HVAC products for buildings. Monodraught designs, installs, and maintains ventilation, cooling, heating, and lighting products for commercial and public buildings for healthier occupants and has developed the most energy-efficient systems on the market.
The presentation showcases CFD being used to design low-energy products, including the HVR Zero and Cool-phase systems. Both products set a new benchmark for the future generation of low-energy hybrid ventilation and cooling systems that integrate ventilation, cooling, and intelligent control strategies. The HVR Zero provides natural ventilation, hybrid mixing ventilation, and low-energy mechanical heat recovery ventilation in one compact unit. The Cool-phase system is an award-winning innovative low-energy ventilation and cooling system. It uses up to 90% less energy than equivalent conventional cooling systems, making it one of the most sustainable cooling product solutions available today. Cool-phase does not use refrigerants and has no compressors making it environmentally friendly both in its manufacture and operation.

Nick Hopper serves as the Technical Director for Monodraught Ltd. and is responsible for many of Monodraught’s new innovations. He is in charge of Research and Development, liaising with Universities and Technical Committees, as well as Monodraught’s own specialist development teams. Having spent over twenty years in the energy-efficient technology business, Nick has a great insight into the viability of innovative products. He is a named inventor on numerous low energy building product patents covering technologies for enhanced natural ventilation solutions, natural daylighting solutions, and optimized phase change material systems. Monodraught has been at the forefront of designing and manufacturing low energy, low carbon solutions for 40 years.
