About this project
the hot oil must be cooled by domestic water, using a single-pass cross-flow heat exchanger consisting of a rectangular shell of 1.26 m long and 12 cm high made of steel and a bundle of eight thin copper tubes (A = 380 W/(m.K), d =45 mm), arranged symmetrically with a fixed pitch between their centres equal to 140 mm, (see the figure below). The hot oil (p=710 kg/m³, Cp = 3.3 kJ/kg.K, λ = 0.22 W/m.K, v = 0.01 kg/m.s), circulates through the tubes at a velocity of 3.5 cm/s and an inlet temperature of 327 °C. The second fluid (water which is heated) enters at a temperature of 25°C with a velocity of 2 cm/s, circulates in cross direction through the shell around the tubes.
