A CFD study of a novel shear-sensitive airlift bioreactor design. The reactor contains a central draft tube with dome-covered perforations that guide bubble flow and reduce shear. A denser-than-water working fluid is used, and air/O₂ is sparged at the bottom through a multi-orifice sparger. The objective of this simulation is to analyze: • liquid circulation patterns • gas holdup distribution • draft-tube vs downcomer flow behavior • overall recirculation efficiency (Rₑ) • shear zones and mixing quality This study supports the optimization of the bioreactor for CHO cells and PHA-producing microbes.
