ENGINE ARCHITECTURE -------- 1.1 Base Block We take the classic Keith Black / Brad Anderson Hemi as the foundation - an aluminum 90° V8, but with critical modifications. --------- Geometry: -------- Cylinder bore: 4.1875" (106.36 mm) Stroke: 4.500" (114.30 mm) Displacement: 496 ci (8128 cm³) Compression ratio: 6.5:1 (for nitromethane - low, because nitromethane carries its own oxygen and detonates at high CR) ------ 1.2 What we remove In a standard Top Fuel Hemi: ------ 2 camshafts (one in the block, one gear-driven) 16 pushrods 16 rocker arms 32 valve springs (2 per valve) Camshaft gear drive ------- All of this is replaced by 16 electro-hydraulic Freevalve actuators. Savings in rotating/reciprocating mass: ~25–30 kg. ------ This is critical because at 8500 rpm every gram of reciprocating mass creates enormous inertial load.
