This project is a compact dust-collection attachment for handheld drills. A nozzle sits just above the drill bit and pulls dust in at the source. The dust travels through a flexible hose into a cylindrical canister mounted on top of the drill. There a filter holds the dust back while a small 12 V radial blower keeps the air moving. The concept was developed through voice-of-customer analysis, benchmarking, House of Quality, TRIZ, a morphological chart, and Pugh and weighted-decision matrices. It was then modelled in Fusion 360 and checked with a CFD airflow study of the nozzle, hose and chamber. The CFD gave the suction required at each flow rate, which was used to choose the blower.
