In this project static stress analysis of Toyota Helix bumper was performed. The geometry of the full model is shown in the figure below.
The model was than simplified on Onshape by merging all solids in to one following this forum post. Moreover, the model was also simplified by removing unnecessary cutouts and small solids and than cut in to half due to symmetry along x-axis. The modified model is shown in figure below.
Two types of meshes were considered; linear and quadratic tetrahedral. Both were made using Fully automatic tetrahedralization on SimScale. The mesh is shown in figure below.
Static analysis - advanced with nonlinearity turned off was used as analysis type. Bumper was given steel as material property. The back bolted portions were constrained in all directions and a force load of 10000 N in negative z-direction was applied on the front flat face.
The figures below show the vonMises stress and displacement magnitude in the quadratic mesh case of bumper.
Note: The deformation was scaled 10 times in order to see the deformed shape more clearly.
