I created a new simulation project called 'ski_jumper_handout':

Two angles of attack are simulated: 5 degrees and 10 degrees. Which is better?


5 degrees:

Lift = Pressure force z + Viscous force z = 248.3 - 0.94 = 247.36

Drag = Pressure force y + Viscous force y = 157.4 + 5.0 = 162.4


Lift/Drag = 247.36 / 162.4 = 1.523


10 degrees:

Lift = Pressure force z + Viscous force z = 281.3 - 0.69 = 280.61

Drag = Pressure force y + Viscous force y = 169.8 + 5.0 = 174.8


Lift/Drag = 280.61 / 174.8 = 1.605


For the Angle of Attack = 10 degrees, we achieve a higher Lift/Drag ratio, therefore I would choose this setup for a longer trip.
