Nozzle Spray Pattern.

- I have pipe boundaries watertight
- I have a boundary around the edge, sidewall and top deflector
- Step by Step instruction please using 18.85psi @ 0.05gmp

Hello there,

Thanks for reaching out and for providing the details of your nozzle simulation. Setting up a spray pattern analysis is a great application for CFD. Here’s a general workflow you can follow to set up your simulation in SimScale.

**Geometry Preparation**

First, ensure your CAD model is clean and watertight. For this internal flow simulation, you’ll need to create the internal fluid volume. You can do this within SimScale using the Flow Volume Extraction tool in the CAD-Edit mode. This will create a new volume representing the fluid domain inside your nozzle.

**Meshing**

Once you have the flow volume, you can proceed to meshing. The standard meshing algorithm should work well for this type of geometry. You can start with the default settings and refine the mesh later if needed for more accuracy.

**Simulation Setup**

This is where you’ll define the physics of your simulation.

Analysis Type: Select an Incompressible analysis.
Materials: You will need to assign materials to your fluid domain. Typically for a nozzle spray, you would use Water as the fluid.
Boundary Conditions: Based on your provided data (18.85 psi @ 0.05 gpm), you can set up your boundary conditions. You can assign these as follows:
Inlet: Assign a Velocity Inlet or a Flow Rate Inlet to the pipe’s entrance with the value calculated above.
Outlet: Assign a Pressure Outlet to the nozzle’s exit. You can set this to atmospheric pressure (0 Pa gauge pressure).
Walls: The remaining surfaces will be assigned a Wall boundary condition.

Turbulence Model: For this type of flow, the k-omega SST turbulence model is a good starting point.

**Post-Processing**

After the simulation is complete, you can use the post-processor to visualize the results. You can create cutting planes and use vector plots to observe the velocity profile and the spray pattern. You can also use particle traces to visualize the flow paths.

If you require more specific support for your project, please share a link to your project. You can find instructions on how to do that here: [Share Project with Support](https://www.simscale.com/docs/platform/collaboration/#share-project-with-support).

I hope this helps you get started.
