Measuring flow through an internal face

I have made a demo project for this question: SimScale

This project has two tanks connected by two pipes of different diameter. There is a pressure boundary condition on each tank causing air to flow between the tanks.

Is there a way I can calculate (like with a Result Control β†’ Surface Data β†’ Area Integral) the flow through each pipe?

Hi again @jcol!

That’s basically the solution (Area Integral). Did you give it a spin already?

But how could I select the area associated with just a single pipe?

Put a cutting plane through the pipes and you should theoretically see the integral, area etc. - give it a try and let me know if that works!

Yeah, that works, I never noticed that before. Thanks

Is there anyway to set this up as part of the simulation (in Results Control) as opposed to only during post-processing?

Well, the only thing I could think of at the moment would be to create a geometry primitive (thin cylinder) and virtually cut through the tube, I am not 100% sure if you can add that for area integral in the result control tab meaning that you can assign a geometry primitive to it, would have to check that myself.

Cheers!
